The Driving Standards Agency announced that learner drivers are now required
to answer more questions to gain a pass before being allowed to go on to complete
a practical test to gain their full licence. By increasing the number of questions,
the DSA says that the test will cover a wider range of topics, helping to improve
skills and ultimately road safety.
The theory test's percentage pass mark remains roughly the same at around 86%. However, with the increasing number of questions and the rise in the test price (from £21.50 to £28.50), it is more important than ever that candidates prepare thoroughly for their theory tests. The essentials are a good knowledge of the Highway Code, an understanding of basic car maintenance and some practical experience at the wheel. Only after passing the theory test can learners progress to the practical test to demonstrate that they can drive competently. The practical test too contains a section on safety and your vehicle - related car maintenance questions, such as fault detections, emissions and car noise... but don't worry, help is at hand with Haynes.
J Haynes, Managing Director of Haynes Publishing, says: 'Basic
