Father's Day – Problem Solved!

Just what do you get your dad for 15 June? Another tie? Yet more handkerchiefs? A pair of slippers again? No! Get him something he wants, something he will be interested in, something he will keep.

BYO Sports CarHaynes has eight books in its range for fathers of all ages and interests. For a start, there's The Dad Manual. What could be better than a book which shows your dad how to make things for you? There's everything from a doll's house to a go-kart plus information about sports, conjuring tricks and cooking. Quite simply, this book will help your dad become a brilliant father.

If your dad is already brilliant, he'll be interested in cars (all dads are). For him, Build Your Own Internal Combustion Engine is the ideal present. Combustion EngineIt's an educational model kit, which builds into a realistic working model of a car engine. If it rains on Father's Day (it invariably does), helping dad build this on a table top will keep everybody amused.

For dads who enjoy challenges, there's the Build Your Own Sports Car book. This fantastic publication shows that with a little ingenuity, perseverance and application, it's possible to get a stunning two-seat roadster on the road without breaking the bank.

Spitfire ManualMaybe your dad doesn't have the time for such things but is still fascinated by all things mechanical (most fathers are). For him, you can choose between the Spitfire Manual and the Lancaster Manual or buy him both. Each provides an insight into owning, restoring, servicing and flying one of Britain's legendary World War II planes. Just the incredibly detailed cutaway drawings will keep your dad fascinated for hours.

Toddler ManualFinally, Haynes has three more manuals which every father should own. These are the Baby Manual, the Toddler Manual and the Teenager Manual. Each book explains, in language that dads understand, the strange habits and workings of children. Each will help him care for, protect and encourage his offspring. Which is exactly what you want.

Haynes books do not require a collar, cannot be used to blow your nose and will not keep your dad's feet warm - but they will make 15 June your father's special day.
