Owning a car is a ticket to independence and freedom for a large section of the population, but the prospect of owning a car for the first time can appear daunting. This extensively illustrated book, now available in paperback, provides a comprehensive guide to car ownership for drivers contemplating the purchase of their first car, and for motorists who would like to learn more about their car. The straightforward text, written in friendly, down-to-earth style, provides an essential source of information to help drivers to enjoy car ownership to the full.

The Car Book is the latest addition in the series with The Bike Book, The Motorcycle Book and The Scooter Book. Starting out with much needed information on buying a car, which includes how to choose the best car for your needs; it then leads on to 'getting on the road' with information on learning to drive, paperwork, insurance, car and personal security, handy gadgets and toolkits.

Further chapters include:

  • 'Getting to know your car' - generic, illustrated descriptions of each of a car's systems and how they work, in layperson's terms
  • 'What to do in an emergency' - common causes of breakdowns and how to avoid them.
  • 'Looking after your car' - advice on tools, regular checks and servicing, the MoT test, accessories and modifications.
  • Appendices providing troubleshooting charts and glossary of terms.

The author Steve Rendle has worked for Haynes Publishing for 20 years, first as a technical author of car manuals and now as an editor, managing the publication of a wide range of car-related books.
