"At Arsenal we don't sign players for special positions - we sign footballers who can do their job anywhere." Herbert Chapman

The Clock End, Ian Wright, The North Bank, Dennis Compton, Boring Arsenal...

Despite the remarkable transformations that have taken place at the club over the past 15 years, these names and phrases remain indelibly linked with Arsenal. This book is a pictorial testament to these enduring legacies that make Arsenal unique across the football landscape.

So comprehensively has Arsène Wenger rebranded the Football Club that it is possible to forget the 100-plus years of history that came before him, but the beauty of this book, and its use of Daily Mirror photographic and written archives, is that it allows us to dip into the past in a unique way. It also serves as a social history of Arsenal, providing a perspective of events in the context of the time they occurred, through the newspaper cuttings that have been reproduced and the evocative, atmospheric photos depicting bygone eras.

The result, is a nostalgia-packed journey, taking you through the club's evolution from its beginnings as a south London munitions factory team, through the nurturing of some of the game's fabled characters - from notorious chairman Henry Norris to the great innovator Herbert Chapman, and the players from Brylcreem Boy Denis Compton, wee Alex James and Charlie George, up to the fresh-in-the-memory figures of Tony Adams and Ian Wright. A line in the sand is drawn at the advent of the Premier League, when Arsenal, and football, were carried along on a wave of ruthless commercialism. The result is a book that is, above all, about a time when football was football - and it leaves you to decide which you prefer

Author Paul Joseph began working life as a news and sports correspondent before entering the world of luxury book publishing, producing limited-edition books on subjects as diverse as Pele, luxury yachts, New York and Pink Floyd. He has also edited an anthology of fans' and players' memories reliving Arsenal's dramatic league title victory at Anfield in 1989, for which all proceeds went to a cancer charity in memory of the great David Rocastle. Paul is an Arsenal season ticket holder who never got to stand on the North Bank himself - but his dad assures him it was the best feeling in the world.

"It's been my life, Tottenham Hotspur, and I love the club." Bill Nicholson

From humble origins to glittering success at home and abroad, Tottenham Hotspur is a name synonymous with the glamour, prestige and romance of football's heyday. This celebration of Tottenham Hotspur and its proud heritage, drawing on thousands of outstanding pictures contained within the Daily Mirror's huge archive, portrays a golden age not just for Tottenham but for football as a whole; a fondly remembered time before the modern era of £150,000-a-week players and WAGs, when Spurs carried all before them in cup and league, blazed a trail for British clubs in Europe, and secured the first domestic double of the 20th century.

All the club's legendary figures, from Nicholson to Perryman, Dimmock to Hoddle, are featured, but this is much more than a visual record of famous names and great games. It provides a unique, behind-the-scenes insight into the day-to-day atmosphere of a major club down the years, the nooks and crannies of the White Hart Lane stadium, the players, the fans, the characters and the offbeat quirks and curiosities that helped make Spurs so special. Wonderfully nostalgic and hugely evocative, here are the people, places and events that made this renowned club what it is today.

Author Adam Powley is a journalist and writer behind a number of books on Tottenham Hotspur. He co-authored We Are Tottenham, the bestselling Spurs Miscellany and the critically acclaimed The Boys From White Hart Lane. He was also a major contributor to The Spurs Opus, When Saturday Comes: The half-decent football book, and Football: The Ultimate Guide. A Spurs supporter for over 30 years (and still with no parole in sight, despite good behaviour), he has also reported and written for the Sunday Mirror, The Guardian, When Saturday Comes and Time Out.
