Gerry Marshall was a legendary figure in British motorsport both on and off the track. His amazing car control, tenacity and natural showmanship provided wonderful entertainment for thousands of racegoers over a 40-year career. Participating in more than 1,400 motorsport events in many different disciplines, Gerry amassed 625 victories and a succession of championships. A larger-than-life character in every way, Gerry's humour, outrageous behaviour, outspokenness and legendary capacity for alcohol combined to ensure that no social event with his presence will ever be forgotten. Here for the first time is his full life story, Gerry Marshall - His Authorised Biography, and what an astonishing tale it makes!

Gerry's motoring passions exploded through a series of unlikely motorcycle and car capers before he first raced in 1961. Madness in Minis helped him to a professional career in his chosen sport, and he later became famous for thrilling spectators with his exploits in Vauxhalls with nicknames like 'Old Nail' and 'Baby Bertha'. The sheer breadth of Gerry's racing career saw him compete in a remarkable range of cars, from thoroughbred Aston Martins to a Morris Marina. He was successful in TVRs, thunderous V8 Lolas, Ford Mustangs, Lotus Cortinas, various MGs, Lister Jaguars and even an ex-Bond Lotus Esprit.

With the help of Gerry's son Gregor, Jeremy Walton chronicles Gerry's remarkable life, from schooldays to his amazingly appropriate and peaceful death in 2005, when he succumbed at the wheel and his car coasted gently to a halt in front of the grandstands at Silverstone. Gerry Marshall - His Authorised Biography draws on a wealth of splendid photographs and engaging memories from his wide circle of friends. Featuring personal correspondence, newspaper features and other memorabilia, this warm-hearted look at Gerry's life will be treasured by all motorsport fans.

Author Jeremy Walton is a respected motoring journalist and author of over 30 motoring books, he wrote the legendary 1978 biography of Gerry, Only Here for the Beer. He has been assisted on this book by Gerry's son, Gregor, who also compiled the conscientiously cross-checked racing results and provided many of the photographs from his comprehensive archive of his father's racing career.
