Updated to mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Piers Courage
'a meticulous and lavish effort' Daily Telegraph
'wonderfully nostalgic and beautifully written' The Spectator
'Cooper has deftly tapped into the warmth Courage engendered among his family and friends' Motor Sport
Piers Courage, a rising motor racing star in the 1960s, was the first man to drive for Frank Williams in Formula 1. He died in a Williams-run de Tomaso at the 1970 Dutch Grand Prix. The Piers Courage - Last of the Gentleman Racers biography, published in hardback to critical acclaim, chronicles the full racing history of the charismatic Old Etonian, including the wild Formula 3 days when he and his chums roamed Europe, surviving on their wits.
Piers Courage - Last of the Gentleman Racers, written with family's co-operation, features dozens of people that knew Piers, including Frank Williams, Bernie Ecclestone, Jackie Stewart, Max Mosley, Nina Rindt and, of course, his wife Lady Sarah, daughter of pre-war racer Earl Howe. Joanna Lumley remembers Piers as 'the kindest, grooviest, gentlest man'. This second edition, updated to mark the 40th anniversary of his death, provides a feast of nostalgia for a bygone era of motor racing.
Author Adam Cooper is a regular contributor to magazines and newspapers worldwide, including Motor Sport, Autosport, Road and Track, GQ and FHM. He lives in Belgium.
