Around a half of the world's motorcycles are made in China and the country has about 2,000 companies making everything from complete engines to individual components. A significant number of Chinese motorcycles are sold in the UK as well as some from Taiwan and Korea. No brand dominates, which is why this latest manual from Haynes covers no fewer than 79 makes - from AJS to ZY Motor.
Haynes, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is famous for its manuals and has sold a remarkable 150 million worldwide. The Chinese Taiwanese & Korean 125cc Motorcycles Manual will, as with all Haynes manuals, help owners maintain and service their machines and save money and will be especially valuable as little technical literature is provided by the manufacturers and there is a lack of a dealer network in many cases.
The Chinese Taiwanese & Korean 125cc Motorcycles Manual covers four-stroke, single and twin-cylinder carburettor-engined motorcycles of 125cc capacity from:
AJS, Baotian, Bashan, Better, Branson, British Trackstar, Chituma, Dadyw, Daelim, Dafier, Dayang, Dayun, Easy Rider, Feiying, FYM, Geely, Giantco, Haotian, Hartford, Himo, Hongdou, Honling, Hsun, Huoniao, Hyosung, Jialing, Jianshe, Jincheng, Jinfeng, Jinlun, Kaisar, Keeway, Kinlon, Kinroad, Kymco, Lexmoto, Lifan, Loncin, Megelli, Moto Roma, Necht, Oubao, Pioneer, POR, Pulse, Romet, Qingqi, Sanya, Sanye, Shineray, Sinnis, Sinski, Skygo, Skyjet, Sky Team, Sukida, Sumoto, Superbyke, Suzuko, Sym, Tayako, TMEC, Urban, Venture, Vulcan, Wangye, Warrior, Wuyang, Xgjao, Xingyue, Xinling, Xiongtai, Yamasaki, Yuan, Zennco, Zhongneng, Znen, Zongshen and ZY Motor.
Some people will use the manual to tackle the work themselves - for many simpler jobs, DIY may be quicker than arranging an appointment to get the motorcycle into a dealer and making the trips to leave it and pick it up. More importantly, avoiding the expense the shop must pass on to cover its labour and overhead costs can save a lot of money. An added benefit is the sense of satisfaction and accomplishment that owners get after doing the job themselves.
There is a section on pre-ride checks including fluid level checks, legal and safety checks plus tyres, suspension, steering and the drive chain.
There follows chapters on each of the main components - engine, gearbox, suspension, brakes and so on. The manual has illustrations and descriptions to show the function of the various components so that their layout can be understood. Tasks are described and photographed in a clear step-by-step sequence with details of any special tools required and a complexity rating given. There are sections on pre-ride checks and routine maintenance and instructions for straightforward tasks such as checking fluid levels and filter changes, plus repair information such as clutch plate renewal and engine overhaul.
- Step-by-step procedures with hundreds of illustrations and photographs.
- Written from hands-on experience using commonly available tools.
- Haynes Hints provide invaluable short cuts and professional know-how.
- Tool Tips save time and money and reduce frustration.
- 'Spanner ratings' indicate how difficult each job is.
