Introduced in the UK in September 2006, the Corsa-D is the latest incarnation of the popular Vauxhall Corsa (née Nova). Available as a hatchback or van with a choice of petrol or diesel engines and manual or automatic transmissions, sales of more than a quarter of a million in just four years make the Corsa one of the UK's best-selling cars.

For the owner wishing to save money by DIY maintenance the Corsa is a relatively straightforward vehicle, with most of the items requiring frequent attention easily accessible.

In its 50th anniversary year, Haynes has just launched a new Owner's Workshop Manual for the Corsa range. Whether owners want to save time and money simply replacing worn wiper blades or faulty bulbs or envisage changing brake pads or doing an oil change, it will prove invaluable. The manual covers the Corsa hatchback and Corsavan with 1.0-litre (998cc) 3-cylinder, 1.2-litre (1229cc) and 1.4-litre (1364cc) 4-cylinder petrol engines and 1.3-litre (1248cc) CDTi turbo-diesel engines.

Each task in the Vauxhall/Opel Corsa Manual has a complexity rating (one spanner symbol means easy, progressing to five spanners for very difficult) so Corsa owners can decide what work needs to be done and then choose whether to tackle it themselves or to use a garage.

The Vauxhall/Opel Corsa Owner's Workshop Manual has drawings and close-up photographs to show the location of various components. Tasks are described and photographed in a clear step-by-step sequence. There are sections on routine maintenance plus instructions for straightforward jobs such as wiper blade replacement. Also included is advice on preparing for the MOT test, fault-finding charts and useful guidance for driving economically.

For more ambitious home mechanics, major overhauls to the engine, suspension and brakes have full instructions, illustrations, and ratings for their complexity. Where special tools are called for, the Vauxhall/Opel Corsa Manual explains their function and (if possible) how to make a cheaper alternative.

As with all Haynes Manuals, there are sections on:
  • Maintenance - simple weekly checks to keep you on the road
  • Servicing - complete, fully illustrated step-by-step guides
  • Fault-finding - helping you to pinpoint specific problems easily
  • Brakes - safety checks and repairs for the home mechanic
  • Overhaul - everything from fitting a new oil seal to an engine rebuild
  • Electrics - easy-to-read wiring diagrams
  • Haynes Tips - valuable short cuts to make many tasks easier
  • Fuel saving - expert advice on maximising mpg
  • Difficulty ratings - every task is graded from 'beginner' to 'expert'
  • Details of tools required
