Revealed: The inner workings of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress 70 years after the US entered WWII

As we approach the seventieth anniversary of the United States' entry into World War II, Haynes has published an owners' workshop manual on the mighty Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress.

One of the most famous and best-known bomber aircraft of all time, the B-17 spearheaded the US 8th Air Force's daylight air offensive over Germany and north-west Europe in World War II.

The latest classic aircraft to receive the Haynes Manual treatment, the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress Manual is centred around the French-owned and operated B-17G Pink Lady and the Imperial War Museum's B-17G Mary Alice, (the former featured in the film Memphis Belle).

Comprehensive photographs and diagrams show a complete engine overhaul, wing removal and undercarriage replacement.

Author Graeme Douglas, who helped restore Mary Alice, gives a full insight into owning, servicing and flying the USAAF's formidable World War II bomber. The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress Manual is a fully-illustrated, authoritative manual and focuses on the practical and technical aspects of the aircraft.

The Author
Graeme Douglas has almost 30 years of experience working on the B-17. He spent 15 years as a part-time volunteer restoring B-17 Mary Alice at Duxford, and later as ground crew on the privately-owned B-17 Sally B. He lives in Essex.

Other titles in the Haynes Classic Aircraft Series
North American P-51 Mustang, Supermarine Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane, Messerschmitt Bf109, Avro Lancaster, de Havilland Tiger Moth, Avro Vulcan, BAC/Aérospatiale Concorde, and NASA Apollo 11.
