Default Gear Lever clearance?

How much clearance should there be between the gear lever and the top of the transmission tunnel (the most forward rail).
From measuring the engine and GB it seems the front of the lever will be very close to the tunnel top. Is this correct or should I push the engine back slightly to give a bit more clearance?

I'm using a pinto+type9.

This is exactly what I mean:

yep ours sits that close as well
it does select gears without fouling though
it wont be a big one if you wish to move that bit of tunnel......... were thinking about it
also i bet the upright is right inline with your reverse light switch........
have a look!!!!!!!!!
yep were probably gonna move or modify that as well
cheers les g

Its not my picture but saying that I think it will. I'll have a look once I drop the engine in hopefully next week. Just waiting on my suspension (ordered on wednesday) and now need to buy more wire as I ran out tonight.

This is mine.

Yours does look a little close.
Main thing to watch out for if using a Pinto & type 9 box is the clutch actuating arm fouling on the transmition tunnel

I slotted my engine and gearbox mounts. This allowed me to be sure everything clears without modding.

That sounds like a good idea, Mine already have one hole as they are 3ge but I can easily add another.

As Les says it's the reverse light switch that fouls the chassis, if you get the switch about 1" behind the upright you will be fine. The car is better to drive with the gear stick as far forward as feasible, feels more natural especially if you need to push the seat forward.
