The Morris Minor is a British institution and one of the country's best-loved cars. Morris Minor The Official Photo Album is an evocative pictorial journey telling the story of Britain's emblematic Morris Minor and is the first in an exciting new series. The Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, has teamed up with Haynes to create a series of Official Photographic Albums of Classic British Cars.
Over the Minor's 23-year life, more than 1.6 million were made, including the half-timbered Traveller and the tens of thousands of vans used by the Post Office. Few other British cars have generated the same affection as that shown towards the friendly, intelligent and delightful-to-drive Morris Minor. It was the first production vehicle created by the talented and eccentric genius Alec Issigonis, who went on to create the Mini, aided by draughtsman and long-time collaborator Jack Daniels.
The Morris Minor was cleverly designed to have maximum interior space for its modest size, and to have high standards of road holding and handling. Today it is one of the most popular classic cars, with a huge fan-base around the world.
Through a carefully chosen selection of photos from the Morris and BMC archives, held by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, and making full use of original factory photos, Morris Minor The Official Photo Album is a wonderful information-packed voyage through the history of the car in its many guises, from the first prototype of 1943 to the last GPO vans of 1972. Morris Minor The Official Photo Album features the very best of period photography, accompanied by in-depth information from an acknowledged Morris expert.
Also featured are some of the legendary sketches from the notebooks of Alec Issigonis, which have yielded fascinating information - largely unpublished until now. In addition there is new research and fresh historical insights, illustrations of all variants including US-market specials and the Minors that never were - a look at the models that never made production.
Written by a leading expert and supported by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, Morris Minor The Official Photo Album is an essential book for every Minor owner - past, present or future - and for every enthusiast of the lovable little Morris, which in 2008 celebrates its 60th birthday.
