Ford Transit Diesel cover
Released in 2009

Ford Transit diesel Owners Workshop Manual

Publication: Out Now

RRP: £19.99
Format: Hardback
Book Number: 4775

Now common parlance for any light commercial van and forever associated with White Van Man, the Transit has been a best seller in Europe for 40 years. An astonishing five million have rolled off the production lines since 1965 and the 'Mark 6' sold between October 2000 and 2006 was voted International Van of the Year in 2001.

Despite many variations in body types and styles, front-wheel or rear-wheel drive options and 2-litre or 2.4-litre diesel engines (as used in the Jaguar X Type), all Ford Transits are relatively straightforward to maintain. Now superseded, the Transit (and Tourneo) variants covered by this new Haynes Manual are a sensible secondhand buy for any DIY mechanic needing a cheap, reliable and spacious van. Transit ownership means you can join the Ford Transit Owners Club, sing the chart-topping White Van Man song and be the representative voice of the people as espoused by The Sun in the early years of the decade.

The aim of the Ford Transit Diesel manual is to help you get the best value from your vehicle. It can do so in several ways. It can help you decide what work must be done (even should you choose to get it done by a garage), provide information on routine maintenance and servicing, and give a logical course of action and diagnosis when random faults occur. However, it is hoped that you will use the manual by tackling the work yourself. Perhaps most important, a lot of money can be saved by avoiding the costs a garage must charge to cover its labour and overheads.

The manual has drawings and close-up photographs to show the location of various components. Tasks are described and photographed in a clear step-by-step sequence with details of what tools are required and a complexity rating. There are sections on daily, weekly and routine maintenance plus instructions for straightforward jobs such as wiper blade replacement. Also included is advice on preparing for the MOT test, fault-finding charts and useful guidance for driving economically.

For more ambitious home mechanics, major overhauls to the engine, suspension and brakes have full instructions, illustrations, and a rating for their complexity. Where special tools are called for, the manual explains their function and (where possible) how to make a cheaper alternative.

As with all Haynes Manuals, there are sections on:
  • Maintenance - simple weekly checks to keep you on the road
  • Servicing - complete, fully illustrated step-by-step guides
  • Fault-finding - helping you to pinpoint specific problems easily
  • Brakes - safety checks and repairs for the home mechanic
  • Overhaul - everything from fitting a new oil seal to an engine rebuild
  • Haynes Tips - valuable short cuts to make many tasks easier
  • Difficulty ratings - every task is graded from 'beginner' to 'expert'
  • Details of tools required
