Ford Ka

Haynes Owners Workshop Manual

Publication: Out Now

RRP: £19.99
Format: Hardback
Book Number: 4786

The original Ford Ka model range was introduced into the UK in October 1996 as a radically styled supermini car; it proved a massive hit with its cute, timeless looks, fun handling and value for money. Since its launch nearly 1.5 million units have sold globally, with more than one in three to UK buyers, and it has dominated the city car sales charts for eight years. During this time the appearance of the tiny runabout has virtually remained unaltered - a testimony to its original design.

The car is hugely popular with first time buyers, as it is cheap to insure and other running costs have been intentionally kept to a minimum. For the home mechanic, the Ford Ka is also a straightforward vehicle that's cheap to maintain. The original Ka (already covered by an earlier Haynes manual) had an engine which could trace its ancestry back to the Ford Anglia in 1959. In 2003 it got a relatively modern overhead cam engine, and it is the models with these engines which this latest Haynes Manual covers.

Haynes is the foremost publisher of vehicle manuals and no fewer than 150 million have been sold worldwide - the equivalent in weight to about 100,000 Ka's! These extraordinary sales figures are testimony to how useful and informative Haynes Manuals are.

The aim of a Haynes Owners Workshop Manual is to help you get the best value from your vehicle. It can do so in several ways. It can help you decide what work must be done (even should you choose to get it done by a garage). It will also provide information on routine maintenance and servicing, and give a logical course of action and diagnosis when random faults occur. However, it is hoped that you will use the manual by tackling the work yourself. On simpler jobs it may even be quicker than booking the car into a garage. Perhaps most important, a lot of money can be saved by avoiding the costs a garage must charge to cover its labour and overheads.

The manual has drawings and descriptions to show the function of the various components so that their layout can be understood. Tasks are described and photographed in a clear step-by-step sequence. There are sections on daily, weekly and routine maintenance and instructions for straightforward tasks such as wiper blade and light bulb replacement, preparing for the MOT test, fault-finding charts and useful guidance for driving economically.

Models covered: Hatchback & Van models with 1.3 litre (1297cc) Duratec petrol engine, including special/limited editions. Does NOT cover SportKa or StreetKa models or the new Ford Ka range introduced Spring 2009

As with all Haynes Manuals, there are sections on:
  • Maintenance - simple weekly checks to keep you on the road
  • Servicing - complete, fully illustrated step-by-step guides
  • Fault-finding - helping you to pinpoint specific problems easily
  • Brakes - safety checks and repairs for the home mechanic
  • Overhaul - everything from fitting a new oil seal to an engine rebuild
  • Haynes Tips - valuable short cuts to make many tasks easier
  • Difficulty ratings - every task is graded from 'beginner' to 'expert'
  • Details of tools required
