First published in 1988, Bill Gunston's original book, Airbus, simply told the story of how the original Airbus A300B was conceived, how the international Airbus company was formed and how it finally grew to become a giant with (by 1988) three quite different types of aircraft in production.
Since then, there have been many Airbus books written, but nothing remotely like Gunston's story exists elsewhere. Having been a consultant to Airbus from 1967 to 1987, Gunston is able to tell the true inside story from first-hand experience.
This fully revised and updated 2nd Edition of Airbus: The Complete Story includes all the prolific single-aisle aircraft that have followed the A320. It profiles the great new wide-bodied aircraft, the A330 and four-engine A340. The enormous A380, an amazing story dominated not by the technology but by politics and finance, is covered in detail, through to the totally different A400M military air lifter. Also featured is the extraordinary gestation of the A350, which was launched in 2005, stopped in 2006 and re-launched in a redesigned and enlarged form in 2007.
Each aircraft's tale is expertly told - and these are tales without parallel!
Bill Gunston OBE is the prolific author of more than 350 published books on aspects of aviation and he is among the top ten non-fiction writers in the UK today. He lives in Surrey.
