Equally loved and loathed by the public and the media, airports are crucial to the operation of passenger and airfreight service worldwide. The World's Top 500 Airports is the guide on the subject.
Illustrated throughout with photographs The World's Top 500 Airports contains a brief history of each airport, details of runways and terminals, annual passenger numbers and aircraft movements. For the top 250 airports there is a map, details of the main user airlines, and details whether traffic is scheduled, chartered, passenger or freight. Freight traffic figures and ranking for freight are also given. All the data and world rankings have been supplied by the US-based Airports Council International.
The World's Top 500 Airports contains facts and figures such as:
- Geneva airport has the longest runway in Europe, Denver airport in the USA.
- The world's largest airport by area is Damman in Saudi Arabia, which is larger than the neighbouring state of Bahrain.
- Chicago O'Hare and Dallas/Fort Worth both have seven runways.
- The busiest twin runway airport in the world is London Heathrow, and London Gatwick is the busiest single runway airport.
David Wragg is a leading author in his field and has written over 30 books on transport and defence history, including The Worlds Major Airlines 2nd Edition (2007). He lives in Queensferry, Scotland.
