When Football Was Football: Chelsea celebrates Chelsea and the beautiful game and the days when the Shed ruled and football really was football
Inside this nostalgic look back at Chelsea Football Club there is a fascinating collection of photographs dating from the club's birth in 1905, all the way through to 1992 and the creation of the Premiership, painstakingly selected from the Daily Mirror's extensive archive of tens of thousands of images.
"John Terry plays in a similar way to me - although the difference is that when he tackles someone, the guy gets up afterwards." Ron Harris
These photos tell the story of one of Britain's most glamorous and often controversial football clubs - from pre-war heroes such as striker Hughie Gallacher, to the free scoring archetypical 1950s striker, Roy Bentley. It also documents regular match day visits from Steve McQueen and Raquel Welch during Tommy Docherty's reign in the swinging '60s.
"Too many people come to Stamford Bridge to see a football match instead of cheering Chelsea. Let's have people eating, sleeping and drinking Chelsea." Ted Drake
There's magnificent photography of star players such as Ron 'Chopper' Harris and Peter Bonetti, the 1971 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup side, David Speedie and Kerry Dixon - the heroes of the '80s revival.
If Blue Is Your Colour, and football is your game, then When Football Was Football: Chelsea is a must see book!
