The popular second generation Audi A3, launched in 2003, is a frequent sight on UK roads - over 140,000 were sold in six years. With numerous existing owners and many secondhand models available, it is timely that Haynes has published this new Audi A3 Owners Workshop Manual. The manual covers Audi A3 hatchback (three-door) and Sportback (five-door) models from 2003 to 2008, with 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre petrol engines including turbocharged versions and 1.9-litre and 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engines.
Despite a comprehensive specification which includes a six-speed gearbox on some models, the Audi A3 is straightforward to maintain. With the aid of this new manual, owners will be able to save time and money by DIY maintenance - whether simply replacing worn wiper blades or faulty bulbs, or undertaking slightly more complex tasks such as changing brake pads or doing an oil change.
As with all Haynes manuals, each task has a complexity rating (one spanner symbol means easy, progressing to five spanners for very difficult) so Audi A3 owners can decide what work needs to be done and then choose whether to tackle it themselves or to use a garage. The manual also provides information on routine maintenance and servicing, and gives a logical course of action and diagnosis when random faults occur.
The Audi A3 Owners Workshop Manual has drawings and close-up photographs to show the location of various components. Tasks are described and photographed in a clear step-by-step sequence. There are sections on daily, weekly and routine maintenance. Also included is advice on preparing for the MOT test, fault-finding charts and useful guidance for driving economically.
For the more ambitious home mechanic, major overhauls to the engine, suspension and brakes also have full instructions, illustrations, and a rating for their complexity. Where special tools are called for, the manual explains their function and (if possible) how to make a cheaper alternative.
As with all Haynes Manuals, there are sections on:
- Maintenance - simple weekly checks to keep you on the road
- Servicing - complete, fully illustrated step-by-step guides
- Fault-finding - helping you to pinpoint specific problems easily
- Brakes - safety checks and repairs for the home mechanic
- Overhaul - everything from fitting a new oil seal to an engine rebuild
- Electrics - easy-to-read wiring diagrams
- Haynes Tips - valuable short cuts to make many tasks easier
- Fuel saving - expert advice on maximising mpg
- Difficulty ratings - every task is graded from 'beginner' to 'expert'
- Details of tools required
