'The car you always promised yourself' is back for another lap of honour in the latest Haynes Enthusiast Guide. The instantly recognisable Ford Capri was inspired by the Mustang, bringing some American style and glamour into the reach of the working man.

Martyn Morgan Jones was one such man and he brings his love and knowledge of the Capri to this new book. Jones reveals many lesser-known facts: did you know the car was a collaboration between British and German engineers? Or that half a million Capris were imported into the USA?

The Capri pre-production process was one of the first to involve focus groups, with the public invited to test out the car and give their opinions. Ford also specifically canvassed the views of women, recognising that it wasn't just men who appreciated stylish cars.

The Capri was in continuous production for nearly 20 years, and Ford Capri: Haynes Enthusiast Guide includes a wealth of information such as model descriptions, specification changes and production figures. Jones also looks at the Capri in competition and how the rallycross, rally and racing models battled it out with BMWs and other Fords across Europe.

For today's Capri owners, there is specific information about how to keep a Capri on the road with maintenance tips and spares information. Ford Capri: Haynes Enthusiast Guide details how to modify a Capri, with up-to-date information on engine swaps, suspension and steering, brakes, wheels, tyres and cosmetic improvements (arches, spoilers etc), plus what is hot on the custom scene.

For those still promising themselves a Capri, there is information on what to look for and where to find one. Illustrated throughout with 200 colour pictures, Ford Capri: Haynes Enthusiast Guide Series will inspire and inform present and future generations of Capri enthusiasts.
