The Royal Yacht Britannia: Diamond Jubilee Edition provides an intimate behind-the-scenes look at how the Royal Family lived on board the Royal Yacht Britannia, the events that occurred over the years and the strict and eccentric rules that governed the crew - both on board and ashore.

Royal Yacht Britannia
Britannia, dressed overall, as she waited for the Duke of Edinburgh to embark during Cowes Week. Both the Duke and the Queen regarded Britannia as the one place in the world where they could truly relax
.

Author Brian Hoey, a respected Royal biographer, enjoyed special access to the ship and her crew, and the Royal Yacht Britannia: Diamond Jubilee Edition includes photographs and information about the State apartments, four Royal honeymoons, the various artefacts on board (including a gold button from the jacket of Admiral Nelson) and the lifestyles of the crew - who slept in hammocks long after crew members on other ships were provided with regular beds.

Nowhere on her hull will you find her name, yet the Royal Yacht Britannia is easily one of the most recognisable vessels afloat. She provided Her Majesty The Queen with a floating palace for over 40 years, and since her decommissioning in 1997 has provided the public with unique access to a Royal household and a superb feat of engineering.

Britannia has sailed over a million miles, visited 135 countries and called at 60 ports, as well as rescued a group of refugees from Aden and represented British trade in 'Sea Days' all over the world.

The Royal Yacht Britannia: Diamond Jubilee Edition gives a detailed insight to one of the most famous ships in the world - the one place The Queen could truly relax.
